World Breastfeeding Week

Inaugural post! I've been looking to concentrate the resources I find, and hopefully this blog will serve as an ongoing resource for my client families.

This coming week is World Breastfeeding Week. In celebration, the publishers of Breastfeeding Medicine have opened up their archives for complimentary access -- Breastfeeding Medicine is a tremendous resource, with original research and Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine protocols.

Rita at The True Face of Birth also pointed her readers towards this great latch video/animation. I'm always looking for visual guides to breastfeeding, because for parents who haven't seen much breastfeeding in person (which is most parents!), it can help to watch videos of what a good latch looks like.

Jack Newman, MD, also has great free online resources. Videos are available from his site, and videos and handouts from breastfeedingonline.com. I especially like his latch videos and his resources on breast compression -- for babies who stop drinking, breast compression can start the flow of milk again, which spurs them into swallowing and resuming sucking.

Lastly, here are my delicious links related to breastfeeding.
